The Missoula Birth Center
Classes and Groups
Classes
We want everyone who plans to birth at The Missoula Birth Center to be educated and informed about birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum. This is why all first-time parents who are planning to birth with us are required to engage in some form of childbirth and breastfeeding education (unless they are planning to exclusively formula feed).
Childbirth Classes:
We have several childbirth class options listed on our local resources page, and there are also many great online programs as well as books and podcasts that can aid in your preparation. Our favorite classes are either the free online classes through Community Medical Center (ask us for the password!) or local in person classes with Cerisse Allen. Looking for other class, book, or podcast recommendations? Just ask one of your midwives or check out our lending library! We all learn differently, but it’s important to come into the birth center as prepared for labor and birth as you can be.
Breastfeeding Classes (If you are planning to breastfeed):
While Community Medical Center offers free online breastfeeding classes, we encourage all families who intend to breastfeed to attend our in person breastfeeding class. This class will include birth center specific information including navigating breastfeeding at home (remember, you will likely head home 4-6hrs after birth!).
Birth Center Orientation:
The Birth Center Orientation is required for all families who are planning to birth at The Missoula Birth Center for the first time. This class covers important information that is specific to the birth center including birth center admission, what to expect while you’re here, birth center transfers, and milestones that everyone must meet before heading home. Knowing this information ahead of time helps to reduce surprises and helps to keep us all on the same page, especially if complications arise.
Groups
Stay tuned! Prenatal and Postpartum Groups coming soon.
In the meantime, if you’re looking for prenatal or postpartum community in the Missoula Area check out Missoula Baby Bistro, Prenatal Yoga with Sister Moon Wellness, Fit4Mom Missoula, and Missoula Mom Walks. Are we missing anything?
Motherhood Circle @ Roots is a free postpartum support group designed to provide peer support for moms during their transition to parenthood. These in-person groups are facilitated by the Roots Birth & Women’s Health team members and are a safe place for camaraderie, connection, and expertise. We will share our experiences, explore common concerns, share local resources, and provide encouragement. You are not alone and no matter how you became a mother, you are welcome here!
Group Prenatal Classes: Coming soon, Jan 2026!
